A review of the Alaska Satellite Facility Imagery Portal
The University of Alaska’s imagery portal is a very responsive and data-rich archive of a variety of image sources. The portal allows users to view, download, and learn more about (via tutorials) a variety of image and derived-from-imagery data sets, largely raster in nature. While the portal includes many image types, the SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imagery is the bread-and-butter of the portal, hosting a wealth of SAR imagery from all over the world.
For more information about the portal, which is hosted by the ASF Distributed Active Archive Center, click here. The Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) downlinks, processes, archives, and distributes remote-sensing data to scientific users around the world. ASF’s mission is to make remote-sensing data accessible. As the image below makes clear, the imagery portal’s holdings extend far beyond Alaska. In my view, the people responsible for this resource are doing a noble job meeting their mission through this portal and beyond.
